1This xf86-video-nv driver package contains support for the NVIDIA GeForce 8
2series of graphics processors.
3
4There are a few caveats of which to be aware:
5 - The XVideo extension is not supported.
6 - The RENDER extension is not accelerated by this driver.
7
8Bugs should be reported at
9 https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-nv
10Please be sure to state the platform & OS. Also attach a copy of your Xorg log
11file and provide a detailed description of your problem and how to reproduce it.

71. XFree driver for NVidia NV1 / SGS-Thomson STG2000 v1.0
8
9This driver now accelerates bitblits and filled rectangles. It also support a
10hardware cursor. More graphic acceleration is planned. There is no plan to
11support the audio functionality of the chip.
12
131.1 Notes
14
15 o THE DRIVER DOES NOT SUPPORT THE VIRTUAL DESKTOP FEATURES OF XFREE86 This
16 is because the NV1 does not have the necessary hardware to support this
17 feature. If you want to change resolutions, you will have to modify your
18 config file. Comment out all but the mode you wish to use.
19
20 o The generic VGA16 server will not work with the NV1. For this reason
21 XF86Setup cannot be used to configure the server. Use xf86config
22 instead. Select `Diamond Edge 3D' as your board, and select only ONE
23 mode for each of 8bpp and 16bpp. Do not select a virtual desktop.
24 Also, make sure you don't select a RAMDAC or clock chip.
25
26 o The NV1 only supports a 555 RGB Weight in 16 bpp, the hardware does not
27 do 565. You must put a Weight 555 in the Display section.
28
29 o 24/32 bpp mode is not yet supported.
30
311.2 Known Bugs
32
33 o The driver should force Weight 555 in 16 bpp mode
34
35 o The hardware cursor doesn't work if an doublescan mode is selected.
36
37 o Screen blanking doesn't work, nor does DPMS.
