1.5 chopps [ XXX file sizes need to be upgraded in this section ]
  1.5 chopps
1.5 chopps The Amiga-specific portion of the NetBSD 1.2 release is found in the
1.1 chopps "amiga" subdirectory of the distribution. That subdirectory is layed
  1.1 chopps out as follows:
  1.1 chopps
  1.5 chopps .../NetBSD-1.2/amiga/
  1.5  chopps 			binary/		Amiga binary distribution sets;
  1.1 chopps see below.
  1.1 chopps
1.5 chopps miniroot/	Amiga installation and upgrade
1.3 chopps file system images; see below.
  1.1 chopps
  1.5  chopps 			security/	Amiga security distribution;
  1.1  chopps 					see below;
  1.1 chopps
  1.5 chopps utils/ Miscellaneous Amiga
  1.1 chopps installation utilities; see
  1.1 chopps installation section, below.
  1.1 chopps
1.5 chopps There are two Amiga file system images to be found in the "amiga/miniroot"
1.5 chopps subdirectory of the NetBSD 1.2 distribution. One of them is a upgrade
1.3 chopps image and one is an installation image. They are described in more
1.3 chopps detail below. There are gzipped versions of each available, for easier
1.3 chopps downloading. (The gzipped version have the ".gz" extension added to
  1.3 chopps their names.)
  1.1 chopps
  1.3 chopps Installation file system:
  1.1 chopps
1.3 chopps This file contains a BSD root file system setup to help
1.3 chopps you install the rest of NetBSD. This includes formatting
1.3 chopps and mounting your root and /usr partitions and getting
1.3 chopps ready to extract (and possibly first fetching) the distribution
1.3 chopps sets. There is enough on this file system to allow you to
1.5 chopps make a SLIP or PPP connection, configure an Ethernet, mount an
1.3 chopps NFS file system or ftp. You can also load distribution sets from
1.3 chopps a SCSI tape or from one of your existing AmigaDOS partitions.
  1.3 chopps
1.5 chopps This file is named "inst-12.fs".
  1.1 chopps
  1.1 chopps
  1.3 chopps Upgrade file system:
  1.1 chopps
1.3 chopps This file contains a BSD root file system setup to help
1.3 chopps you upgrade a previous version of NetBSD. This includes
1.4 jtc converting existing partitions and mounting your root and
1.4 jtc /usr partitions and getting ready to extract (and possibly
1.4 jtc first fetching) the distribution sets. There is enough on
1.5 chopps this file system to allow you to make a SLIP or PPP connection,
1.5 chopps configure an Ethernet, mount an NFS file system or ftp.
1.4 jtc You can also load distribution sets from a SCSI tape, from
1.4 jtc one of your existing AmigaDOS partitions, or from an existing
  1.4 jtc NetBSD partition.
  1.1 chopps
1.5 chopps This file is named "upgr-12.fs".
  1.1 chopps
1.5 chopps The NetBSD/Amiga binary distribution sets contain the binaries which
1.5 chopps comprise the NetBSD 1.2 release for the Amiga. There are seven binary
1.1 chopps distribution sets, and the "security" distribution set. The binary
1.1 chopps distribution sets can be found in subdirectories of the "amiga/binary"
1.5 chopps subdirectory of the NetBSD 1.2 distribution tree, and are as follows:
  1.1 chopps
1.5 chopps base12	The NetBSD/Amiga 1.2 base binary distribution. You
1.1 chopps MUST install this distribution set. It contains the
1.1 chopps base NetBSD utilities that are necessary for the
1.1 chopps system to run and be minimally functional. It
1.1 chopps includes shared library support, and excludes
  1.1 chopps everything described below.
  1.5 chopps [ 8M gzipped, 20M uncompressed ]
  1.1 chopps
1.5 chopps comp12	The NetBSD/Amiga Compiler tools. All of the tools
1.1 chopps relating to C, C++, and FORTRAN (yes, there are two!).
1.1 chopps This set includes the system include files
1.1 chopps (/usr/include), the linker, the compiler tool chain,
1.1 chopps and the various system libraries (except the shared
1.1 chopps libraries, which are included as part of the base
1.1 chopps set). This set also includes the manual pages for all
1.1 chopps of the utilities it contains, as well as the system
1.1 chopps call and library manual pages.
  1.5 chopps [ 6M gzipped, 15M uncompressed ]
  1.1 chopps
1.5 chopps etc12	This distribution set contains the system
1.1 chopps configuration files that reside in /etc and in several
1.1 chopps other places. This set MUST be installed if you are
1.1 chopps installing the system from scratch, but should NOT be
1.1 chopps used if you are upgrading. (If you are upgrading,
1.1 chopps it's recommended that you get a copy of this set and
1.1 chopps CAREFULLY upgrade your configuration files by hand.)
  1.5 chopps [ 77K gzipped, 340K uncompressed ]
  1.1 chopps
1.5 chopps games12	This set includes the games and their manual pages.
  1.4 jtc [ 3M gzipped, 7M uncompressed ]
  1.1 chopps
1.5 chopps man12	This set includes all of the manual pages for the
1.1 chopps binaries and other software contained in the base set.
1.1 chopps Note that it does not include any of the manual pages
1.1 chopps that are included in the other sets.
  1.5 chopps [ 1M gzipped, 3M uncompressed ]
  1.1 chopps
1.5 chopps misc12	This set includes the system dictionaries (which are
1.1 chopps rather large), the typesettable document set, and
1.1 chopps man pages for other architectures which happen to be
1.1 chopps installed from the source tree by default.
  1.4 jtc [ 2M gzipped, 7M uncompressed ]
  1.1 chopps
1.5 chopps text12	This set includes NetBSD's text processing tools,
1.1 chopps including groff, all related programs, and their
  1.1 chopps manual pages.
  1.5 chopps [ 900K gzipped, 3M uncompressed ]
  1.1 chopps
1.5 chopps The Amiga security distribution set is named "secr12" and can be found
1.5 chopps in the "amiga/security" subdirectory of the NetBSD 1.2 distribution
1.1 chopps tree. It contains crypt.c (the source file for the DES encryption
1.1 chopps algorithm) and the binaries which depend on it. It can only be found
1.1 chopps on those sites which carry the complete NetBSD distribution and that
1.1 chopps can legally obtain it. (Remember, because of United States law, this
1.1 chopps distribution set may not be exported to locations outside of the
  1.4 jtc United States and Canada.) [ 128K gzipped, 307K uncompressed ]
  1.1 chopps
1.5 chopps The Amiga binary distribution sets are distributed in the same form as
1.1 chopps the source distribution sets; catted together, the members of a set
1.5 chopps form a gzipped tar file. Each Amiga binary distribution set also has
1.1 chopps its own "CKSUMS" file, just as the source distribution sets do.
  1.1 chopps
1.1 chopps The instructions given for extracting the source sets work equally
1.1 chopps well for the binary sets, but it is worth noting that if you use that
1.1 chopps method, the files are extracted "below" the current directory. That
1.1 chopps is, if you want to extract the binaries "into" your system, i.e.
1.1 chopps replace the system binaries with them, you have to run the "tar xvfp"
1.1 chopps from /. Also note that if you upgrade or install this way, those
1.1 chopps programs that you are using at the time will NOT be replaced. If you
1.1 chopps follow the normal installation or upgrade procedures, this will be
1.1 chopps taken care of for you.
