1The amiga-specific portion of the NetBSD 1.1 release is found in the 2"amiga" subdirectory of the distribution. That subdirectory is layed 3out as follows: 4 5.../NetBSD-1.1/amiga/ 6 binary/ amiga binary distribution sets; 7 see below. 8 9 miniroot/ amiga installation and upgrade 10 file system images; see below. 11 12 security/ amiga security distribution; 13 see below; 14 15 utils/ Miscellaneous amiga 16 installation utilities; see 17 installation section, below. 18 19There are two amiga file system images to be found in the "amiga/miniroot" 20subdirectory of the NetBSD 1.1 distribution. One of them is a upgrade 21image and one is an installation image. They are described in more 22detail below. There are gzipped versions of each available, for easier 23downloading. (The gzipped version have the ".gz" extension added to 24their names.) 25 26Installation file system: 27 28 This file contains a BSD root file system setup to help 29 you install the rest of NetBSD. This includes formatting 30 and mounting your root and /usr partitions and getting 31 ready to extract (and possibly first fetching) the distribution 32 sets. There is enough on this file system to allow you to 33 make a slip or ppp connection, configure an ethernet, mount an 34 NFS file system or ftp. You can also load distribution sets from 35 a SCSI tape or from one of your existing AmigaDOS partitions. 36 37 This file is named "inst-11.fs". 38 39 40Upgrade file system: 41 42 This file contains a BSD root file system setup to help 43 you upgrade a previous version of NetBSD. This includes 44 converting existing partitions and mounting your root and 45 /usr partitions and getting ready to extract (and possibly 46 first fetching) the distribution sets. There is enough on 47 this file system to allow you to make a slip or ppp connection, 48 configure an ethernet, mount an NFS file system or ftp. 49 You can also load distribution sets from a SCSI tape, from 50 one of your existing AmigaDOS partitions, or from an existing 51 NetBSD partition. 52 53 This file is named "upgr-11.fs". 54 55The NetBSD/amiga binary distribution sets contain the binaries which 56comprise the NetBSD 1.1 release for the amiga. There are seven binary 57distribution sets, and the "security" distribution set. The binary 58distribution sets can be found in subdirectories of the "amiga/binary" 59subdirectory of the NetBSD 1.1 distribution tree, and are as follows: 60 61 base11 The NetBSD/amiga 1.1 base binary distribution. You 62 MUST install this distribution set. It contains the 63 base NetBSD utilities that are necessary for the 64 system to run and be minimally functional. It 65 includes shared library support, and excludes 66 everything described below. 67 [ 7M gzipped, 20M uncompressed ] 68 69 comp11 The NetBSD/amiga Compiler tools. All of the tools 70 relating to C, C++, and FORTRAN (yes, there are two!). 71 This set includes the system include files 72 (/usr/include), the linker, the compiler tool chain, 73 and the various system libraries (except the shared 74 libraries, which are included as part of the base 75 set). This set also includes the manual pages for all 76 of the utilities it contains, as well as the system 77 call and library manual pages. 78 [ 5M gzipped, 15M uncompressed ] 79 80 etc11 This distribution set contains the system 81 configuration files that reside in /etc and in several 82 other places. This set MUST be installed if you are 83 installing the system from scratch, but should NOT be 84 used if you are upgrading. (If you are upgrading, 85 it's recommended that you get a copy of this set and 86 CAREFULLY upgrade your configuration files by hand.) 87 [ 60K gzipped, 340K uncompressed ] 88 89 games11 This set includes the games and their manual pages. 90 [ 3M gzipped, 7M uncompressed ] 91 92 man11 This set includes all of the manual pages for the 93 binaries and other software contained in the base set. 94 Note that it does not include any of the manual pages 95 that are included in the other sets. 96 [ 850K gzipped, 3M uncompressed ] 97 98 misc11 This set includes the system dictionaries (which are 99 rather large), the typesettable document set, and 100 man pages for other architectures which happen to be 101 installed from the source tree by default. 102 [ 2M gzipped, 7M uncompressed ] 103 104 text11 This set includes NetBSD's text processing tools, 105 including groff, all related programs, and their 106 manual pages. 107 [ 784K gzipped, 3M uncompressed ] 108 109The amiga security distribution set is named "secr11" and can be found 110in the "amiga/security" subdirectory of the NetBSD 1.1 distribution 111tree. It contains crypt.c (the source file for the DES encryption 112algorithm) and the binaries which depend on it. It can only be found 113on those sites which carry the complete NetBSD distribution and that 114can legally obtain it. (Remember, because of United States law, this 115distribution set may not be exported to locations outside of the 116United States and Canada.) [ 128K gzipped, 307K uncompressed ] 117 118The amiga binary distribution sets are distributed in the same form as 119the source distribution sets; catted together, the members of a set 120form a gzipped tar file. Each amiga binary distribution set also has 121its own "CKSUMS" file, just as the source distribution sets do. 122 123The instructions given for extracting the source sets work equally 124well for the binary sets, but it is worth noting that if you use that 125method, the files are extracted "below" the current directory. That 126is, if you want to extract the binaries "into" your system, i.e. 127replace the system binaries with them, you have to run the "tar xvfp" 128from /. Also note that if you upgrade or install this way, those 129programs that you are using at the time will NOT be replaced. If you 130follow the normal installation or upgrade procedures, this will be 131taken care of for you. 132
