1[ XXX file sizes need to be upgraded in this section ] 2 3The Amiga-specific portion of the NetBSD 1.2 release is found in the 4"amiga" subdirectory of the distribution. That subdirectory is layed 5out as follows: 6 7.../NetBSD-1.2/amiga/ 8 binary/ Amiga binary distribution sets; 9 see below. 10 11 miniroot/ Amiga installation and upgrade 12 file system images; see below. 13 14 security/ Amiga security distribution; 15 see below; 16 17 utils/ Miscellaneous Amiga 18 installation utilities; see 19 installation section, below. 20 21There are two Amiga file system images to be found in the "amiga/miniroot" 22subdirectory of the NetBSD 1.2 distribution. One of them is a upgrade 23image and one is an installation image. They are described in more 24detail below. There are gzipped versions of each available, for easier 25downloading. (The gzipped version have the ".gz" extension added to 26their names.) 27 28Installation file system: 29 30 This file contains a BSD root file system setup to help 31 you install the rest of NetBSD. This includes formatting 32 and mounting your root and /usr partitions and getting 33 ready to extract (and possibly first fetching) the distribution 34 sets. There is enough on this file system to allow you to 35 make a SLIP or PPP connection, configure an Ethernet, mount an 36 NFS file system or ftp. You can also load distribution sets from 37 a SCSI tape or from one of your existing AmigaDOS partitions. 38 39 This file is named "inst-12.fs". 40 41 42Upgrade file system: 43 44 This file contains a BSD root file system setup to help 45 you upgrade a previous version of NetBSD. This includes 46 converting existing partitions and mounting your root and 47 /usr partitions and getting ready to extract (and possibly 48 first fetching) the distribution sets. There is enough on 49 this file system to allow you to make a SLIP or PPP connection, 50 configure an Ethernet, mount an NFS file system or ftp. 51 You can also load distribution sets from a SCSI tape, from 52 one of your existing AmigaDOS partitions, or from an existing 53 NetBSD partition. 54 55 This file is named "upgr-12.fs". 56 57The NetBSD/Amiga binary distribution sets contain the binaries which 58comprise the NetBSD 1.2 release for the Amiga. There are seven binary 59distribution sets, and the "security" distribution set. The binary 60distribution sets can be found in subdirectories of the "amiga/binary" 61subdirectory of the NetBSD 1.2 distribution tree, and are as follows: 62 63 base12 The NetBSD/Amiga 1.2 base binary distribution. You 64 MUST install this distribution set. It contains the 65 base NetBSD utilities that are necessary for the 66 system to run and be minimally functional. It 67 includes shared library support, and excludes 68 everything described below. 69 [ 8M gzipped, 20M uncompressed ] 70 71 comp12 The NetBSD/Amiga Compiler tools. All of the tools 72 relating to C, C++, and FORTRAN (yes, there are two!). 73 This set includes the system include files 74 (/usr/include), the linker, the compiler tool chain, 75 and the various system libraries (except the shared 76 libraries, which are included as part of the base 77 set). This set also includes the manual pages for all 78 of the utilities it contains, as well as the system 79 call and library manual pages. 80 [ 6M gzipped, 15M uncompressed ] 81 82 etc12 This distribution set contains the system 83 configuration files that reside in /etc and in several 84 other places. This set MUST be installed if you are 85 installing the system from scratch, but should NOT be 86 used if you are upgrading. (If you are upgrading, 87 it's recommended that you get a copy of this set and 88 CAREFULLY upgrade your configuration files by hand.) 89 [ 77K gzipped, 340K uncompressed ] 90 91 games12 This set includes the games and their manual pages. 92 [ 3M gzipped, 7M uncompressed ] 93 94 man12 This set includes all of the manual pages for the 95 binaries and other software contained in the base set. 96 Note that it does not include any of the manual pages 97 that are included in the other sets. 98 [ 1M gzipped, 3M uncompressed ] 99 100 misc12 This set includes the system dictionaries (which are 101 rather large), the typesettable document set, and 102 man pages for other architectures which happen to be 103 installed from the source tree by default. 104 [ 2M gzipped, 7M uncompressed ] 105 106 text12 This set includes NetBSD's text processing tools, 107 including groff, all related programs, and their 108 manual pages. 109 [ 900K gzipped, 3M uncompressed ] 110 111The Amiga security distribution set is named "secr12" and can be found 112in the "amiga/security" subdirectory of the NetBSD 1.2 distribution 113tree. It contains crypt.c (the source file for the DES encryption 114algorithm) and the binaries which depend on it. It can only be found 115on those sites which carry the complete NetBSD distribution and that 116can legally obtain it. (Remember, because of United States law, it 117may not be legal to distribute this set to locations outside of the 118United States and Canada.) [ 128K gzipped, 307K uncompressed ] 119 120The Amiga binary distribution sets are distributed in the same form as 121the source distribution sets; catted together, the members of a set 122form a gzipped tar file. Each Amiga binary distribution set also has 123its own "CKSUMS" file, just as the source distribution sets do. 124 125The instructions given for extracting the source sets work equally 126well for the binary sets, but it is worth noting that if you use that 127method, the files are extracted "below" the current directory. That 128is, if you want to extract the binaries "into" your system, i.e. 129replace the system binaries with them, you have to run the "tar xvfp" 130from /. Also note that if you upgrade or install this way, those 131programs that you are using at the time will NOT be replaced. If you 132follow the normal installation or upgrade procedures, this will be 133taken care of for you. 134
