1[ XXX file sizes need to be upgraded in this section ] 2 3The Amiga-specific portion of the NetBSD _VER release is found in the 4"amiga" subdirectory of the distribution. That subdirectory is laid 5out as follows: 6 7.../NetBSD-_VER/amiga/ 8 binary/ Amiga binary distribution sets; 9 see below. 10 11 miniroot/ Amiga miniroot file system 12 image; see below. 13 14 security/ Amiga security distribution; 15 see below; 16 17 utils/ Miscellaneous Amiga 18 installation utilities; see 19 installation section, below. 20 21The Amiga now uses a single miniroot filesystem for both an initial 22installation and for an upgrade. A gzipped version is available, for easier 23downloading. (The gzipped version have the ".gz" extension added to 24their names.) 25 26Miniroot file system: 27 28 This file contains a BSD root file system setup to help 29 you install the rest of NetBSD or to upgrade a previous version of 30 NetBSD. This includes formatting 31 and mounting your root and /usr partitions and getting 32 ready to extract (and possibly first fetching) the distribution 33 sets. There is enough on this file system to allow you to 34 make a SLIP or PPP connection, configure an Ethernet, mount an 35 NFS file system or ftp. You can also load distribution sets from 36 a SCSI tape or from one of your existing AmigaDOS partitions. 37 38 This file is named "miniroot-13.fs". 39 40The NetBSD/Amiga binary distribution sets contain the binaries which 41comprise the NetBSD _VER release for the Amiga. There are seven binary 42distribution sets, and the "security" distribution set. The binary 43distribution sets can be found in subdirectories of the "amiga/binary" 44subdirectory of the NetBSD _VER distribution tree, and are as follows: 45 46 base13 The NetBSD/Amiga _VER base binary distribution. You 47 MUST install this distribution set. It contains the 48 base NetBSD utilities that are necessary for the 49 system to run and be minimally functional. It 50 includes shared library support, and excludes 51 everything described below. 52 [ 8M gzipped, 20M uncompressed ] 53 54 comp13 The NetBSD/Amiga Compiler tools. All of the tools 55 relating to C, C++, and FORTRAN (yes, there are two!). 56 This set includes the system include files 57 (/usr/include), the linker, the compiler tool chain, 58 and the various system libraries (except the shared 59 libraries, which are included as part of the base 60 set). This set also includes the manual pages for all 61 of the utilities it contains, as well as the system 62 call and library manual pages. 63 [ 6M gzipped, 15M uncompressed ] 64 65 etc13 This distribution set contains the system 66 configuration files that reside in /etc and in several 67 other places. This set MUST be installed if you are 68 installing the system from scratch, but should NOT be 69 used if you are upgrading. (If you are upgrading, 70 it's recommended that you get a copy of this set and 71 CAREFULLY upgrade your configuration files by hand.) 72 [ 77K gzipped, 340K uncompressed ] 73 74 games13 This set includes the games and their manual pages. 75 [ 3M gzipped, 7M uncompressed ] 76 77 man13 This set includes all of the manual pages for the 78 binaries and other software contained in the base set. 79 Note that it does not include any of the manual pages 80 that are included in the other sets. 81 [ 1M gzipped, 3M uncompressed ] 82 83 misc13 This set includes the system dictionaries (which are 84 rather large), the typesettable document set, and 85 man pages for other architectures which happen to be 86 installed from the source tree by default. 87 [ 2M gzipped, 7M uncompressed ] 88 89 text13 This set includes NetBSD's text processing tools, 90 including groff, all related programs, and their 91 manual pages. 92 [ 900K gzipped, 3M uncompressed ] 93 94The Amiga security distribution set is named "secr13" and can be found 95in the "amiga/security" subdirectory of the NetBSD _VER distribution 96tree. It contains crypt.c (the source file for the DES encryption 97algorithm) and the binaries which depend on it. It can only be found 98on those sites which carry the complete NetBSD distribution and that 99can legally obtain it. (Remember, because of United States law, it 100may not be legal to distribute this set to locations outside of the 101United States and Canada.) [ 128K gzipped, 307K uncompressed ] 102 103The Amiga binary distribution sets are distributed in the same form as 104the source distribution sets; catted together, the members of a set 105form a gzipped tar file. Each Amiga binary distribution set also has 106its own "CKSUMS" file, just as the source distribution sets do. 107 108The instructions given for extracting the source sets work equally 109well for the binary sets, but it is worth noting that if you use that 110method, the files are extracted "below" the current directory. That 111is, if you want to extract the binaries "into" your system, i.e. 112replace the system binaries with them, you have to run the "tar xvfp" 113from /. Also note that if you upgrade or install this way, those 114programs that you are using at the time will NOT be replaced. If you 115follow the normal installation or upgrade procedures, this will be 116taken care of for you. 117
