contents revision 1.3 1 1.3 jtc The mac68k-specific portion of the NetBSD 1.1 release is found in the
1.1 briggs "mac68k" subdirectory of the distribution. That subdirectory is laid
1.1 briggs out as follows:
1.1 briggs
1.3 jtc .../NetBSD-1.1/mac68k/
1.1 briggs binary/ mac68k binary distribution sets;
1.1 briggs see below.
1.1 briggs
1.1 briggs security/ mac68k security distribution;
1.1 briggs see below.
1.1 briggs
1.1 briggs utils/ The mac68k installation utilities.
1.1 briggs
1.1 briggs The NetBSD/mac68k binary distribution sets contain the binaries which
1.3 jtc comprise the NetBSD 1.1 release for the mac68k. There are eight binary
1.1 briggs distribution sets, and the "security" distribution set. The binary
1.1 briggs distribution sets can be found in subdirectories of the "mac68k/binary"
1.3 jtc subdirectory of the NetBSD 1.1 distribution tree, and are as follows:
1.1 briggs
1.3 jtc netbsd10 The NetBSD/mac68k 1.1 kernel binary. You MUST
1.1 briggs install this file. It is the kernel that you need
1.1 briggs to boot the system.
1.1 briggs [ 307K gzipped, 610K uncompressed ]
1.1 briggs
1.3 jtc base11 The NetBSD/mac68k 1.1 base binary distribution. You
1.1 briggs MUST install this distribution set. It contains the
1.1 briggs base NetBSD utilities that are necessary for the
1.1 briggs system to run and be minimally functional. It
1.1 briggs includes shared library support, and excludes
1.1 briggs everything described below.
1.1 briggs [ 6.2M gzipped, 18.4M uncompressed ]
1.1 briggs
1.3 jtc comp11 The NetBSD/mac68k Compiler tools. All of the tools
1.1 briggs relating to C, C++, and FORTRAN (yes, there are two!).
1.1 briggs This set includes the system include files
1.1 briggs (/usr/include), the linker, the compiler tool chain,
1.1 briggs and the various system libraries (except the shared
1.1 briggs libraries, which are included as part of the base
1.1 briggs set). This set also includes the manual pages for all
1.1 briggs of the utilities it contains, as well as the system
1.1 briggs call and library manual pages.
1.2 briggs [ 4.0M gzipped, 12.7M uncompressed ]
1.1 briggs
1.3 jtc etc11 This distribution set contains the system
1.1 briggs configuration files that reside in /etc and in several
1.1 briggs other places. This set MUST be installed if you are
1.1 briggs installing the system from scratch, but should NOT be
1.1 briggs used if you are upgrading. (If you are upgrading,
1.1 briggs it's recommended that you get a copy of this set and
1.1 briggs CAREFULLY upgrade your configuration files by hand.)
1.1 briggs [ 50K gzipped, 280K uncompressed ]
1.1 briggs
1.3 jtc games11 This set includes the games and their manual pages.
1.1 briggs [ 1.0M gzipped, 3.0M uncompressed ]
1.1 briggs
1.3 jtc man11 This set includes all of the manual pages for the
1.1 briggs binaries and other software contained in the base set.
1.1 briggs Note that it does not include any of the manual pages
1.1 briggs that are included in the other sets.
1.1 briggs [ 0.7M gzipped, 2.8M uncompressed ]
1.1 briggs
1.3 jtc misc11 This set includes the system dictionaries (which are
1.1 briggs rather large), the typesettable document set, and
1.1 briggs man pages for other architectures which happen to be
1.1 briggs installed from the source tree by default.
1.1 briggs [ 1.6M gzipped, 5.7M uncompressed ]
1.1 briggs
1.3 jtc text11 This set includes NetBSD's text processing tools,
1.1 briggs including groff, all related programs, and their
1.1 briggs manual pages.
1.1 briggs [ 0.8M gzipped, 2.9M uncompressed ]
1.1 briggs
1.3 jtc The mac68k security distribution set is named "secr11" and can be found
1.3 jtc in the "mac68k/security" subdirectory of the NetBSD 1.1 distribution
1.1 briggs tree. It contains the crypt libraries (for the DES encryption algorithm)
1.1 briggs and the binaries which depend on it. It can only be found on those sites
1.1 briggs which carry the complete NetBSD distribution and that can legally obtain
1.1 briggs it. (Remember, because of United States law, this distribution set may
1.1 briggs not be exported to locations outside of the United States and Canada.)
1.1 briggs [ 109K gzipped, 260K uncompressed ]
1.1 briggs
1.1 briggs The mac68k binary distribution sets are distributed in the same form as
1.1 briggs the source distribution sets; catted together, the members of a set
1.1 briggs form a gzipped tar file.
1.1 briggs
1.1 briggs The instructions given for extracting the source sets work equally
1.1 briggs well for the binary sets, but it is worth noting that if you use that
1.1 briggs method, the files are extracted "below" the current directory. That
1.1 briggs is, if you want to extract the binaries "into" your system, i.e.
1.1 briggs replace the system binaries with them, you have to run the "tar xfp"
1.1 briggs from /. Also note that if you upgrade or install this way, those
1.1 briggs programs that you are using at the time will NOT be replaced. If you
1.1 briggs follow the normal installation or upgrade procedures, this will be
1.1 briggs taken care of for you.
