1The mac68k-specific portion of the NetBSD _VER release is found in the 2"mac68k" subdirectory of the distribution. That subdirectory is laid 3out as follows: 4 5.../NetBSD-_VER/mac68k/ 6 binary/ mac68k binary distribution sets; 7 see below. 8 9 security/ mac68k security distribution; 10 see below. 11 12 X11/ mac68k X distribution sets; 13 see below. 14 15 utils/ The mac68k installation utilities. 16 17The NetBSD/mac68k binary distribution sets contain the binaries which 18comprise the NetBSD _VER release for the mac68k. There are eight binary 19distribution sets, the "security" distribution set, and five X distribution 20sets. The binary distribution sets can be found in the "mac68k/binary" 21subdirectory of the NetBSD _VER distribution tree, and are as follows: 22 23 netbsd13 The NetBSD/mac68k _VER kernel binary. You MUST 24 install this file. It is the kernel that you need 25 to boot the system. 26 [ 606K gzipped, 1.32M uncompressed ] 27 28 base13 The NetBSD/mac68k _VER base binary distribution. You 29 MUST install this distribution set. It contains the 30 base NetBSD utilities that are necessary for the 31 system to run and be minimally functional. It 32 includes shared library support, and excludes 33 everything described below. 34 [ 8.6M gzipped, 25.1M uncompressed ] 35 36 comp13 The NetBSD/mac68k Compiler tools; all of the tools 37 relating to C and C++. 38 This set includes the system include files 39 (/usr/include), the linker, the compiler tool chain, 40 and the various system libraries (except the shared 41 libraries, which are included as part of the base 42 set). This set also includes the manual pages for all 43 of the utilities it contains, as well as the system 44 call and library manual pages. 45 [ 6.2M gzipped, 21.6M uncompressed ] 46 47 etc13 This distribution set contains the system 48 configuration files that reside in /etc and in several 49 other places. This set MUST be installed if you are 50 installing the system from scratch, but should NOT be 51 used if you are upgrading. (If you are upgrading, 52 it's recommended that you get a copy of this set and 53 CAREFULLY upgrade your configuration files by hand.) 54 [ 49K gzipped, 288K uncompressed ] 55 56 games13 This set includes the games and their manual pages. 57 [ 2.8M gzipped, 7.2M uncompressed ] 58 59 man13 This set includes all of the manual pages for the 60 binaries and other software contained in the base set. 61 Note that it does not include any of the manual pages 62 that are included in the other sets. 63 [ 2.2M gzipped, 8.8M uncompressed ] 64 65 misc13 This set includes the system dictionaries (which are 66 rather large), the typesettable document set, and 67 man pages for other architectures which happen to be 68 installed from the source tree by default. 69 [ 2.1M gzipped, 7.6M uncompressed ] 70 71 text13 This set includes NetBSD's text processing tools, 72 including groff, all related programs, and their 73 manual pages. 74 [ 1.0M gzipped, 3.7M uncompressed ] 75 76The mac68k security distribution set is named "secr13" and can be found 77in the "mac68k/security" subdirectory of the NetBSD _VER distribution 78tree. It contains the crypt libraries (for the DES encryption algorithm) 79and the binaries which depend on it. It can only be found on those sites 80which carry the complete NetBSD distribution and that can legally obtain 81it. (Remember, because of United States law, it may not be legal to 82distribute this set to locations outside of the United States and Canada.) 83[ 779K gzipped, 2.5M uncompressed ] 84 85The NetBSD _VER distribution includes a full X11 build for NetBSD/mac68k 86systems. Except for some minor changes to facilitate building under 87NetBSD in general, the X clients and related libraries were built "out of 88the box" from an XFree86 3.3.1 tree, which in turn was based on X11R6.3. 89The binaries were built on, and require, a NetBSD/mac68k _VER system. The 90mac68k X distribution sets can be found in the "mac68k/X11" subdirectory 91of the NetBSD _VER distribution tree, and are as follows: 92 93 xbase13 X clients, shared libraries, and related man pages. 94 Also includes bitmaps and miscellaneous 95 configuration files. 96 [ 2.34 M gzipped, 7.46M uncompressed ] 97 98 xserver13 The Xmac68k _monochrome_ server with man pages. 99 [ 1.32M gzipped, 3.25M uncompressed ] 100 101 xfont13 X fonts. 102 [ 5.66M gzipped, 6.99M uncompressed ] 103 104 xcomp13 Static libraries, include files (except bitmaps), 105 X config files (for xmkmf), and related man pages. 106 [ 1.57M gzipped, 6.38M uncompressed ] 107 108 xcontrib User-contributed X binaries (e.g. xev, xload) with 109 man pages and default config files. 110 [ 178K gzipped, 661K uncompressed ] 111 112The mac68k binary distribution sets are distributed as full .tar.gz files 113(without that extension). The instructions given for extracting the 114source sets work equally well for the binary sets, but it is worth noting 115that if you use that method, the files are extracted "below" the current 116directory. That is, if you want to extract the binaries "into" your 117system, i.e. replace the system binaries with them, you have to run the 118"tar xfp" from /. Also note that if you upgrade or install this way, 119those programs that you are using at the time will NOT be replaced. If 120you follow the normal installation or upgrade procedures, this will be 121taken care of for you. 122
