hardware revision 1.5
1.4 ender NetBSD/mac68k _VER runs on several of the older Macintosh computers.
1.1 briggs 4MB of RAM should be sufficient to boot and the system can probably
1.1 briggs be squeezed onto a 40MB hard disk by leaving off a package or two.
1.1 briggs To actually do much compiling or anything more interesting than
1.1 briggs booting, at least 8MB of RAM and more disk space is recommended.
1.4 ender About 75MB will be necessary to install all of the NetBSD _VER binary
1.1 briggs distribution (note that this does not count swap space!). Much more
1.1 briggs disk space is required to install the source and objects as well (about
  1.3 briggs another 200-300MB as a guess).
  1.1 briggs
  1.1 briggs Supported models:
1.4 ender Mac II, IIx, IIcx, SE/30, IIci, IIsi, IIvx, IIvi,
  1.4 ender Performa 400/405/410/430, Performa 450, Performa 460/466/467,
  1.4 ender Performa 520, Performa 550/560, Performa 600,
1.4 ender LC II, LC III, LC III+, LC 520, LC 550,
  1.4 ender MacTV,
  1.4 ender Centris 650,
  1.4 ender Quadra 610, Quadra 630, Quadra 650, Quadra 700, Quadra 800,
  1.5 ender Quadra/Centris 660AV, Quadra 840AV
  1.1 briggs
1.1 briggs Supported devices on all of the above systems include:
1.4 ender Onboard SCSI bus and most SCSI tapes, hard drives, and CD-ROMs
1.2 jtc Internal sound--enough to beep on some machines, anyway
1.5 ender Most basic NuBus video cards (there have been some
1.5 ender problems with some 24-bit color cards and with most
  1.5 ender QuickDraw acclerators)
1.1 briggs Both internal serial ports
1.4 ender ADB keyboards and mice (both Apple and a number of third party
1.5 ender multi-button mice and trackballs are supported)
1.4 ender Ethernet cards based on the Natl. Semiconductor 8390 and the
  1.4 ender SONIC (DP83932) chips
1.3 briggs (Asante, Apple, and a few others--problems still
1.3 briggs with ethernet and many NuBus video cards).
1.4 ender Onboard ethernet based on the SONIC chip for Quadra-series Macs
1.5 ender Onboard ethernet based on the MACE chip for the AV Quadras.
1.5 ender Comm-slot ethernet may be working for some machines/cards.
  1.1 briggs
1.3 briggs If your 68030 system is not listed above, it may be because of a problem
1.4 ender with accessing onboard video and it may still work with a serial console.
1.3 briggs Some of the known ones in this category:
  1.4 ender Classic-series Macs
  1.4 ender PowerBook 100-series and Duo-series Macs
  1.4 ender
1.4 ender If your 68LC040 system is not listed above, it is due to a problem with
1.4 ender floating point emulation (FPE) for this type of processor. Machines in
  1.4 ender this category include:
  1.4 ender Newer LC-series machines
  1.4 ender Newer Performa-series machines
1.5 ender Some PowerBook 500-series Macs
  1.1 briggs
1.1 briggs What isn't supported, but often asked about:
1.4 ender Macintosh IIfx: This machine has unusual custom chips for the
1.4 ender ADB and serial interfaces which makes support for it
1.4 ender difficult. Work is in progress on this, though.
1.4 ender Quadra 900/950: These machines have I/O processor chips for their
1.4 ender ADB interfaces similar to those used in the IIfx and thus
1.4 ender face similar support problems.
1.3 briggs PowerPC-based Macs. This will be separate from this port.
1.3 briggs The PowerPC is a much different processor as is much of
1.3 briggs the hardware inside these machines. If you are
1.3 briggs interested in this, you might want to take a look at
1.4 ender http://www.mklinux.apple.com/. In addition, there is
1.4 ender also a NetBSD-powerpc port. For more information, please
  1.4 ender see http://www.tools.de/~ws/NetBSD/powerpc.html.
