hardware revision 1.3
1NetBSD/mac68k 1.2 runs on several of the older Macintosh computers. 24MB of RAM should be sufficient to boot and the system can probably 3be squeezed onto a 40MB hard disk by leaving off a package or two. 4To actually do much compiling or anything more interesting than 5booting, at least 8MB of RAM and more disk space is recommended. 6About 60MB will be necessary to install all of the NetBSD 1.2 binary 7distribution (note that this does not count swap space!). Much more 8disk space is required to install the source and objects as well (about 9another 200-300MB as a guess). 10 11Supported models: 12 Mac II, IIx, IIcx, IIci, SE/30, IIsi, IIvx, IIvi, 13 Performa 550, Performa 600, 14 LC III, LC 520, 15 MacTV 16 17Supported devices on all of the above systems include: 18 Internal SCSI bus and most SCSI tapes, hard drives, and CD-ROMs 19 Internal sound--enough to beep on some machines, anyway 20 Most basic NuBUS video cards (there have been some 21 problems with some 24-bit color cards) 22 Both internal serial ports 23 ADB keyboards and mice 24 Ethernet cards based on the Natl. Semiconductor 8390 25 (Asante, Apple, and a few others--problems still 26 with ethernet and many NuBus video cards). 27 28If your 68030 system is not listed above, it may be because of a problem 29with accessing the ADB and it may still work with a serial console. 30Some of the known ones in this category: 31 Classic II (Performa 200?) 32 PowerBook 145, PowerBook 160 33 34What isn't supported, but often asked about: 35 68040-based Macs. Work is in progress on these, but it is slow- 36 going. This requires a new scsi driver and a new 37 ethernet driver. When something is available, it will 38 be announced on port-mac68k@netbsd.org. 39 PowerPC-based Macs. This will be separate from this port. 40 The PowerPC is a much different processor as is much of 41 the hardware inside these machines.
