prep revision 1.1
1.1 briggs Find your favorite disk partitioning utility. Some
1.1 briggs of the ones that have been tried and seem to work are:
  1.1 briggs SCSI Directory Lite
1.1 briggs Disk Manager Mac from OnTrack
1.1 briggs HD SC Setup from Apple
  1.1 briggs I/O Formatter from Diversified (?)
  1.1 briggs Silverlining from LaCie
  1.1 briggs APS Disk Tools
  1.1 briggs
1.1 briggs The last can be found on any A/UX ftp site--for example:
  1.1 briggs jagubox.gsfc.nasa.gov:/pub/mac/APS273.sit.hqx, or
  1.1 briggs dunkin.princeton.edu:/pub/jagubox/mac/APS273.sit.hqx.
  1.1 briggs
1.1 briggs ** First, be sure you have a reliable backup of any data
1.1 briggs ** which you may want to keep. Repartitioning your hard
1.1 briggs ** drive is an excellent way to destroy important data.
  1.1 briggs
1.1 briggs Second, use your favorite partitioning utility to make
1.1 briggs at least an A/UX "Root & Usr" partition and an A/UX "Swap"
1.1 briggs partition. The "Root & Usr" partition should be _at least_
1.1 briggs 50MB in size if you wish to install everything. Generally,
1.1 briggs you should allocate twice as much swap space as you have real
1.1 briggs memory (so, if you have 8MB of RAM, specify 16MB of swap space).
1.1 briggs Systems that will be heavily used or that are low on real
1.1 briggs memory should have more swap space allocated. Systems that
1.1 briggs will be only lightly used can get away with less.
  1.1 briggs
1.1 briggs If you like, you can also create a smaller root partition
1.1 briggs and a larger /usr. If you plan to use this machine as a
1.1 briggs server, you may also want a separate /var. Create these
1.1 briggs partitions as the BSD "usr" or "User slice X" type.
  1.1 briggs
1.1 briggs You are now set to install NetBSD on your hard drive.
