1 Find your favorite disk partitioning utility. Some 2 of the ones that have been tried and seem to work are: 3 SCSI Directory Lite 4 Disk Manager Mac from OnTrack 5 HD SC Setup from Apple 6 I/O Formatter from Diversified (?) 7 Silverlining from LaCie 8 APS Disk Tools 9 10 The last can be found on any A/UX ftp site--for example: 11 jagubox.gsfc.nasa.gov:/pub/mac/APS273.sit.hqx, or 12 dunkin.princeton.edu:/pub/jagubox/mac/APS273.sit.hqx. 13 14 ** First, be sure you have a reliable backup of any data 15 ** which you may want to keep. Repartitioning your hard 16 ** drive is an excellent way to destroy important data. 17 18 Second, use your favorite partitioning utility to make 19 at least an A/UX "Root & Usr" partition and an A/UX "Swap" 20 partition. The "Root & Usr" partition should be _at least_ 21 50MB in size if you wish to install everything. Generally, 22 you should allocate twice as much swap space as you have real 23 memory (so, if you have 8MB of RAM, specify 16MB of swap space). 24 Systems that will be heavily used or that are low on real 25 memory should have more swap space allocated. Systems that 26 will be only lightly used can get away with less. 27 28 If you like, you can also create a smaller root partition 29 and a larger /usr. If you plan to use this machine as a 30 server, you may also want a separate /var. Create these 31 partitions as the BSD "usr" or "User slice X" type. 32 33 You are now set to install NetBSD on your hard drive. 34
