xfer revision 1.13 1 1.13 ender $NetBSD: xfer,v 1.13 1998/05/11 20:43:37 ender Exp $
1.12 perry
1.8 ender Installation is currently only supported from the local Macintosh hard
1.13 ender drive, from a CD-ROM, or from an AppleShare volume (however, you may upgrade
1.13 ender a system from within NetBSD; see the section on upgrading for more details).
1.13 ender If you are installing from a local hard drive, this means that you'll need
1.13 ender at least enough room for the largest file that you will have to install.
1.13 ender This is the 8.6M base.tgz file. There has been talk of allowing an install
1.13 ender from split files. If you have the time, desire, and knowledge, please feel
1.13 ender free to add that functionality.
1.2 briggs
1.8 ender If the install is being done from an AppleShare-mounted volume, the install
1.11 ender utility must be in the same folder as the binary distribution sets.
1.8 ender
1.10 scottr Each distribution file is in "raw" archive format.
1.1 briggs
1.10 scottr - Distribution files must be downloaded in binary mode. Common web
1.10 scottr browsers may not be suitable for this task; FTP clients such as
1.10 scottr Fetch and Anarchie work fine, but be sure to specify a binary file
1.10 scottr transfer.
1.10 scottr
1.10 scottr - The files should not be unpacked. If you have the Internet Config
1.10 scottr extension installed, you can disable this in the "Helpers" dialog
1.10 scottr by removing the entry associated with ".tgz" files. Other FTP
1.10 scottr clients may require separate changes; consult your package's
1.10 scottr documentation.
1.13 ender
1.13 ender - If you are installing from a CD-ROM, the distribution sets are
1.13 ender already in the proper format and no special handling is required.
1.9 scottr
1.8 ender You will also need to collect the MacOS installation tools from the
1.8 ender "mac68k/installation/misc" subdirectory of the NetBSD _VER distribution:
1.8 ender Mkfs, NetBSD/Mac68k Installer, and NetBSD/Mac68k Booter. These three are
1.8 ender in binhexed, self-extracting archives as Mkfs.sea.hqx, Installer.sea.hqx,
1.9 scottr and Booter.sea.hqx, respectively. Extract them as you would any other
1.9 scottr Macintosh application.
