contents revision 1.1.2.2
1.1.2.2 jtc The pmax-specific portion of the NetBSD 1.2 release is found in the
1.1.2.2 jtc "pmax" subdirectory of the distribution. That subdirectory is laid
  1.1.2.2 jtc out as follows:
  1.1.2.2 jtc
  1.1.2.2 jtc .../NetBSD-1.2/pmax/
  1.1.2.2  jtc 			binary/		pmax binary distribution sets;
  1.1.2.2 jtc see below.
  1.1.2.2 jtc
  1.1.2.2 jtc install/	a GENERIC kernel, installation
  1.1.2.2  jtc 					utilities and a miniroot filesystem;
  1.1.2.2 jtc see below.
  1.1.2.2 jtc
  1.1.2.2  jtc 			security/	pmax security distribution;
  1.1.2.2 jtc see below.
  1.1.2.2 jtc
1.1.2.2 jtc The NetBSD/pmax binary distribution sets contain the binaries which
1.1.2.2 jtc comprise the NetBSD 1.2 release for the pmax. There are seven binary
1.1.2.2 jtc distribution sets, and the "security" distribution set. The binary
1.1.2.2 jtc distribution sets can be found in the "pmax/binary" subdirectory of
1.1.2.2 jtc the NetBSD 1.2 distribution tree, and are as follows:
  1.1.2.2 jtc
1.1.2.2 jtc base12	The NetBSD/pmax 1.2 base binary distribution. You
1.1.2.2 jtc MUST install this distribution set. It contains the
1.1.2.2 jtc base NetBSD utilities that are necessary for the
1.1.2.2 jtc system to run and be minimally functional. It
1.1.2.2 jtc does NOT include shared library support, and excludes
  1.1.2.2 jtc everything described below.
  1.1.2.2 jtc [ 20.4M gzipped, 19M uncompressed ]
  1.1.2.2 jtc
1.1.2.2 jtc comp12	The NetBSD/pmax Compiler tools. All of the tools
1.1.2.2 jtc relating to C and C++. This set includes the system
1.1.2.2 jtc include files (/usr/include), the linker, the compiler
1.1.2.2 jtc tool chain, and the various system libraries (except
1.1.2.2 jtc the shared libraries, which are included as part of the
1.1.2.2 jtc base set). This set also includes the manual pages for
1.1.2.2 jtc all of the utilities it contains, as well as the system
1.1.2.2 jtc call and library manual pages.
  1.1.2.2 jtc [ 7.4M gzipped, 14.7M uncompressed ]
  1.1.2.2 jtc
1.1.2.2 jtc etc12	This distribution set contains the system configuration
1.1.2.2 jtc files that reside in /etc and in several other places.
1.1.2.2 jtc This set MUST be installed if you are installing the
1.1.2.2 jtc system from scratch, but should NOT be used if you are
1.1.2.2 jtc upgrading. (If you are upgrading, it's recommended that
1.1.2.2 jtc you get a copy of this set and CAREFULLY upgrade your
1.1.2.2 jtc configuration files by hand.)
  1.1.2.2 jtc [ 68K gzipped, 348K uncompressed ]
  1.1.2.2 jtc
1.1.2.2 jtc games12	This set includes the games and their manual pages.
  1.1.2.2 jtc [ 2.8M gzipped, 6.8M uncompressed ]
  1.1.2.2 jtc
1.1.2.2 jtc man12	This set includes all of the manual pages for the
1.1.2.2 jtc binaries and other software contained in the base set.
1.1.2.2 jtc Note that it does not include any of the manual pages
1.1.2.2 jtc that are included in the other sets.
  1.1.2.2 jtc [ 0.9M gzipped, 3.6M uncompressed ]

1.1.2.2 jtc rather large), the typesettable document set, and
1.1.2.2 jtc man pages for other architectures which happen to be
1.1.2.2 jtc installed from the source tree by default.
  1.1.2.2 jtc [ 1.9M gzipped, 6.6M uncompressed ]
  1.1.2.2 jtc
1.1.2.2 jtc text12	This set includes NetBSD's text processing tools,
1.1.2.2 jtc including groff, all related programs, and their
  1.1.2.2 jtc manual pages.
  1.1.2.2 jtc [ 1.2M gzipped, 3.18M uncompressed ]
  1.1.2.2 jtc
1.1.2.2 jtc The pmax distribution set does not include a security distribution.
1.1.2.2 jtc If you are in the US and want the security distribution you must
1.1.2.2 jtc get the security source distribution and recompile libcrypt.a and
1.1.2.2 jtc recompile the following programs:
1.1.2.2 jtc ed, ftpd, makekey, rexecd, uucpd, init, lock, login, passwd,
1.1.2.2 jtc skeyinit, su, tn3270, pppd
  1.1.2.2 jtc
1.1.2.2 jtc (Remember, because of United States law, this distribution set may not
1.1.2.2 jtc be exported to locations outside of the United States and Canada.)
  1.1.2.2 jtc [ 128K gzipped, 275K uncompressed ]
  1.1.2.2 jtc
1.1.2.2 jtc The pmax binary distribution sets are distributed as gzipped tar files.
1.1.2.2 jtc Each pmax binary distribution set also has its own "CKSUMS" file, just
1.1.2.2 jtc as the source distribution sets do.
  1.1.2.2 jtc
1.1.2.2 jtc The initial installation of NetBSD 1.2 on a Decstation not already running
1.1.2.2 jtc NetBSD 1.2 is supported by the following files, which are included in
  1.1.2.2 jtc the `.../install' directory:
  1.1.2.2 jtc
1.1.2.2 jtc miniroot.gz	A gzipped copy of a miniroot filesystem.
1.1.2.2 jtc When unzipped, this is suitable for dd'ing
1.1.2.2 jtc onto a raw disk partition.
  1.1.2.2 jtc
  1.1.2.2 jtc netbsd.gz	A gzipped GENERIC kernel.
  1.1.2.2 jtc
  1.1.2.2 jtc
1.1.2.2 jtc The instructions given for extracting the source sets work equally
1.1.2.2 jtc well for the binary sets, but it is worth noting that if you use that
1.1.2.2 jtc method, the files are extracted "below" the current directory. That
1.1.2.2 jtc is, if you want to extract the binaries "into" your system, i.e.
1.1.2.2 jtc replace the system binaries with them, you have to run the "tar xvfp"
1.1.2.2 jtc from /. Also note that if you upgrade or install this way, those
1.1.2.2 jtc programs that you are using at the time will NOT be replaced. If you
1.1.2.2 jtc follow the normal installation or upgrade procedures, this will be
1.1.2.2 jtc taken care of for you.
