hardware revision 1.4
1NetBSD/sparc RELEASE runs on the following classes of machines: 2 - sun4c (e.g. the SS1, SS1+, SS2, IPC, ELC, IPX, and SLC) 3 - sun4 (e.g. the 4/100, 4/200, and 4/300. note that support 4 for the 4/400 processor is incomplete) 5 - sun4m (e.g. sparc classic, 4, 5, 10, and 20) 6 7NetBSD/sparc RELEASE does *not* run on these machines (yet): 8 - sun-4/400 (lacking support for the I/O cache, and has 9 ethernet problems) 10 - sun4m (with hypersparc, 10, 20; multiprocessor support) 11 - sun4d (e.g. sparc center 2000) 12 - sun4u (e.g. ultra1/ultra2/ultra server) 13 14Work is being on for the sun4m hypersparc processors. 15 16The minimal configuration requires 4M of RAM and ~60M of disk space. 17To install the entire system requires much more disk space, and to run 18X or compile the system, more RAM is recommended. (NetBSD with 4M of 19RAM feels like Solaris with 4M of RAM.) Note that until you have 20around 16M of RAM, getting more RAM is more important than getting a 21faster CPU.) 22 23Supported devices include: 24 sun4c sbus video: 25 cgsix, cgthree, and bwtwo frame buffers 26 sun4 video (not thoroughly tested?): 27 P4 on-board bwtwo, and VME cgtwo card 28 serial ports: 29 ttya and ttyb (can be used as console if needed) 30 ethernet: 31 on-board AMD Lance ethernet ("le0"), 32 Sbus AMD Lance ethernet cards, 33 on-board Intel 82586 ethernet (ie0 on 4/100's and 4/200's), 34 VME Intel 82586 ethernet cards 35 SCSI: 36 on-board "esp" SCSI controller (sun4c's, and the 4/300), 37 sbus "esp" SCSI controller, 38 Sun "SUN-3"/"si" VME SCSI controller (polled mode only, slow), 39 Sun "SCSI Weird"/"sw" on-board controller (4/110 only, polled) 40 VME disks: 41 Xylogics 7053 VME/SMD disk controller ("xd"), 42 Xylogics 450/451 VME disk controller ("xy") 43 [note: VME/IPI disks are not supported] 44 sun floppy disk drive on sun4c's 45 sun keyboard and mouse 46 sun4c audio 47 48 49Hardware the we do NOT currently support, but get many questions 50about: 51 sun4m's with hypersparc or more than one cpu. 52 interrupt driven SCSI driver for sun-4/100's and sun-4/200's 53 54The next release will hopefully run on many more machines. 55
