1.6 minoura The x68k-specific portion of the NetBSD _VER release is found in the
1.1 oki "x68k" subdirectory of the distribution. That subdirectory is laid
1.1 oki out as follows:
1.1 oki
1.6 minoura .../NetBSD-_VER/x68k/
1.1 oki binary/ x68k binary distribution sets;
1.1 oki see below.
1.1 oki
1.1 oki floppies/ x68k boot and installation
1.6 minoura floppy; see below.
1.1 oki
1.1 oki utils/ installation utilities which
1.1 oki runs on Human68k.
1.1 oki
1.6 minoura There is a floppy image in the "x68k/floppies" subdirectory of the
1.6 minoura NetBSD _VER distribution, called "boot.fs". This can be used for both
1.6 minoura installing NetBSD/x68k for the first time, and upgrading it from the
1.6 minoura previous release.
1.1 oki
1.1 oki The NetBSD/x68k binary distribution sets contain the binaries which
1.6 minoura comprise the NetBSD _VER release for the x68k. There are seven binary
1.1 oki distribution sets. The binary distribution sets can be found in
1.6 minoura subdirectories of the "x68k/binary" subdirectory of the NetBSD _VER
1.1 oki distribution tree, and are as follows:
1.1 oki
1.6 minoura base The NetBSD/x68k _VER base binary distribution. You
1.1 oki MUST install this distribution set. It contains the
1.1 oki base NetBSD utilities that are necessary for the
1.1 oki system to run and be minimally functional. It
1.1 oki includes shared library support, and excludes
1.1 oki everything described below.
1.6 minoura [ 8.7M gzipped, 25.2M uncompressed ]
1.1 oki
1.6 minoura comp The NetBSD/x68k Compiler tools. All of the tools
1.5 is relating to C, C++, Objective C, and FORTRAN (yes,
1.5 is there are two, although NO FORTRAN compiler!).
1.1 oki This set includes the system include files
1.1 oki (/usr/include), the linker, the compiler tool chain,
1.1 oki and the various system libraries (except the shared
1.1 oki libraries, which are included as part of the base
1.1 oki set). This set also includes the manual pages for all
1.1 oki of the utilities it contains, as well as the system
1.1 oki call and library manual pages.
1.6 minoura [ 6.5M gzipped, 22.8M uncompressed ]
1.1 oki
1.6 minoura etc This distribution set contains the system
1.1 oki configuration files that reside in /etc and in several
1.1 oki other places. This set MUST be installed if you are
1.1 oki installing the system from scratch, but should NOT be
1.1 oki used if you are upgrading. (If you are upgrading,
1.1 oki it's recommended that you get a copy of this set and
1.1 oki CAREFULLY upgrade your configuration files by hand.)
1.6 minoura [ 53K gzipped, 330K uncompressed ]
1.1 oki
1.6 minoura games This set includes the games and their manual pages.
1.1 oki [ 2.8M gzipped, 7.0M uncompressed ]
1.1 oki
1.6 minoura man This set includes all of the manual pages for the
1.1 oki binaries and other software contained in the base set.
1.1 oki Note that it does not include any of the manual pages
1.1 oki that are included in the other sets.
1.6 minoura [ 2.4M gzipped, 9.8M uncompressed ]
1.1 oki
1.6 minoura misc This set includes the system dictionaries (which are
1.1 oki rather large), the typesettable document set, and
1.1 oki man pages for other architectures which happen to be
1.1 oki installed from the source tree by default.
1.6 minoura [ 2.1M gzipped, 8.2M uncompressed ]
1.1 oki
1.6 minoura text This set includes NetBSD's text processing tools,
1.1 oki including groff, all related programs, and their
1.1 oki manual pages.
1.6 minoura [ 1.0M gzipped, 3.7M uncompressed ]
1.1 oki
1.6 minoura For other platform, there is a security distribution named "secr"
1.3 mycroft provided. The x68k security distribution is not provided in the
1.1 oki binary form.
1.1 oki
1.1 oki The x68k binary distribution sets are distributed in the same form as
1.1 oki the source distribution sets; catted together, the members of a set
1.1 oki form a gzipped tar file. Each x68k binary distribution set also has
1.1 oki its own "CKSUMS" file, just as the source distribution sets do.
1.1 oki
1.1 oki The instructions given for extracting the source sets work equally
1.1 oki well for the binary sets, but it is worth noting that if you use that
1.1 oki method, the files are extracted "below" the current directory. That
1.1 oki is, if you want to extract the binaries "into" your system, i.e.
1.1 oki replace the system binaries with them, you have to run the "tar xvfp"
1.1 oki from /. Also note that if you upgrade or install this way, those
1.1 oki programs that you are using at the time will NOT be replaced. If you
1.1 oki follow the normal installation or upgrade procedures, this will be
1.1 oki taken care of for you.
