  1.1 christos
1.1 christos This directory contains documentation on the Texinfo system and the TeX
1.1 christos sources needed to process Texinfo sources. We recommend using the
1.1 christos texi2dvi included in this distribution to run a Texinfo manual through
1.1 christos TeX to produce a DVI file.
  1.1 christos
1.1 christos The .tex files are not installed automatically because TeX installations
1.1 christos vary so widely. Installing them in the wrong place would give a false
1.1 christos sense of security. So, you should simply cp *.tex to the appropriate
1.1 christos place. If your installation follows the TeX Directory Structure
1.1 christos standard (http://tug.org/tds/), this will be the directory
  1.1 christos TEXMF/tex/texinfo/ for texinfo.tex, TEXMF/tex/generic/dvips/ for epsf.tex,
1.1 christos and TEXMF/pdftex/plain/misc for pdfcolor.tex. If you use the default
1.1 christos installation paths, TEXMF will be /usr/local/share/texmf. On systems
1.1 christos with TeX preinstalled, as most GNU/Linux distributions offer, TEXMF
1.1 christos will often be something like /usr/share/texmf.
  1.1 christos
1.1 christos It is also possible to put these .tex files in a `local' place instead
1.1 christos of overwriting existing ones, but this is more complicated. See your TeX
1.1 christos documentation in general and the texmf.cnf file in particular for information.
  1.1 christos
1.1 christos If you add files to your TeX installations, not just replace existing
1.1 christos ones, you very likely have to update your ls-R file; do this with the
1.1 christos mktexlsr command. In older versions, this was named MakeTeXls-R.
  1.1 christos
1.1 christos You can get the latest texinfo.tex from
1.1 christos ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/texinfo/texinfo.tex (and all GNU mirrors)
1.1 christos ftp://tug.org/tex/texinfo.tex (and all CTAN mirrors)
1.1 christos or on the FSF machines in /home/gd/gnu/doc/texinfo.tex.
1.1 christos If you have problems with the version in this distribution, please check
1.1 christos for a newer version.
  1.1 christos
1.1 christos epsf.tex comes with dvips distributions, and you may already have it
1.1 christos installed. The version here is functionally identical but slightly
1.1 christos nicer than the one in dvips574. The changes have been sent to the
  1.1 christos epsf.tex maintainer.
