76
The latest version of this document is always available at
77 http://gcc.gnu.org/install/.
78 It refers to the current development sources, instructions for
79 specific released versions are included with the sources.
80

81
This document describes the generic installation procedure for GCC as well
82 as detailing some target specific installation instructions.
83

84
GCC includes several components that previously were separate distributions
85 with their own installation instructions. This document supersedes all
86 package-specific installation instructions.
87

88
Before starting the build/install procedure please check the
89 host/target specific installation notes.
90 We recommend you browse the entire generic installation instructions before
91 you proceed.
92

93
Lists of successful builds for released versions of GCC are
94 available at http://gcc.gnu.org/buildstat.html.
95 These lists are updated as new information becomes available.
96

97
The installation procedure itself is broken into five steps.
98

99

100
Prerequisites
101

Downloading the source
102

Configuration
103

Building
104

Testing (optional)
105

Final install
106

107
108
Please note that GCC does not support ‘<samp>make uninstall</samp>’ and probably
109 won’t do so in the near future as this would open a can of worms. Instead,
110 we suggest that you install GCC into a directory of its own and simply
111 remove that directory when you do not need that specific version of GCC
112 any longer, and, if shared libraries are installed there as well, no
113 more binaries exist that use them.
114

115
There are also some old installation instructions,
116 which are mostly obsolete but still contain some information which has
117 not yet been merged into the main part of this manual.
