1.1 christos README for GNU development tools
  1.1 christos
1.1 christos This directory contains various GNU compilers, assemblers, linkers,
1.1 christos debuggers, etc., plus their support routines, definitions, and documentation.
  1.1 christos
1.1 christos If you are receiving this as part of a GDB release, see the file gdb/README.
1.1 christos If with a binutils release, see binutils/README; if with a libg++ release,
1.1 christos see libg++/README, etc. That'll give you info about this
1.1 christos package -- supported targets, how to use it, how to report bugs, etc.
  1.1 christos
1.1 christos It is now possible to automatically configure and build a variety of
1.1 christos tools with one command. To build all of the tools contained herein,
1.1 christos run the ``configure'' script here, e.g.:
  1.1 christos
  1.1 christos ./configure
  1.1 christos make
  1.1 christos
1.1 christos To install them (by default in /usr/local/bin, /usr/local/lib, etc),
  1.1 christos then do:
  1.1 christos make install
  1.1 christos
1.1 christos (If the configure script can't determine your type of computer, give it
1.1 christos the name as an argument, for instance ``./configure sun4''. You can
1.1 christos use the script ``config.sub'' to test whether a name is recognized; if
1.1 christos it is, config.sub translates it to a triplet specifying CPU, vendor,
  1.1 christos and OS.)
  1.1 christos
1.1 christos If you have more than one compiler on your system, it is often best to
1.1 christos explicitly set CC in the environment before running configure, and to
1.1 christos also set CC when running make. For example (assuming sh/bash/ksh):
  1.1 christos
  1.1 christos CC=gcc ./configure
  1.1 christos make
  1.1 christos
1.1 christos A similar example using csh:
  1.1 christos
  1.1 christos setenv CC gcc
  1.1 christos ./configure
  1.1 christos make
  1.1 christos
1.1 christos Much of the code and documentation enclosed is copyright by
1.1 christos the Free Software Foundation, Inc. See the file COPYING or
1.1 christos COPYING.LIB in the various directories, for a description of the
1.1 christos GNU General Public License terms under which you can copy the files.
  1.1 christos
1.1 christos REPORTING BUGS: Again, see gdb/README, binutils/README, etc., for info
1.1 christos on where and how to report problems.
