1306    Let the OS instead of X save/restore text console fonts on Linux. So far we
1307        relied on the generic VGA layer to restore text console fonts for us
1308        when shutting down the server or VT switching back to the text console.
1309        This has worked rather well but it has some downsides on Linux: a. Many
1310        people use fbdev as console text mode. In this case it is not necessary
1311        to save/restore console fonts as the console is running in graphics
1312        mode anyway. b. Some architectures don't have a fbdev console but
1313        require a full POST of even the primary card (ie. IA64). This posting
1314        has to take place before we even have a chance to save anything.
1315        Therefore the fonts we save are the once written to the chip by POST,
1316        not what has been programmed by the user. c. Certain chipsets utilize
1317        the BIOS to perform mode setting. This may interfer with the vga
1318        save/restore font function in a strange way. It would therefore be
1319        preferrable to let the OS - which has been used to set up the font in
1320        the first place - take care of saving/restoring the data. I will attach
1321        a patch which will do so for Linux. To make this fully functional a
1322        small patch needs to be applied to the Linux kernel. To disable this
1323        feature add: #define DoOSFontRestore NO to your host.def. (Bugzilla

1442    Make Xorg the default server to install.
1443    Avoid PIO access on IA64. Some IA64 machine check if legacy ports outside
1444        the VGA range are accessed. The ATi driver however does this to probe
1445        for ISA Mach8/32/64. Since no IA64 has ISA slots this restriction
1446        should not be relevant to the user.
1447    Avoid recursive calls of xf86scanpci(). This function normally detects that
1448        it has been called before by checking if the PCI structure is filled
1449        out. So far if this was not the case (because PCI probing has failed
1450        for some reason) the function is traversed again. With the chipset
1451        specific PCI bus probing this can lead to an endless recursive loop as
1452        the post-probing code calls xf86scanpci() from within this function.
1453    The OS specific PCI code for Linux worked only if bus 0 was populated as it
1454        checked for the presence of /proc/bus/pci/00. Fixed to check for
1455        /proc/bus/pci/<bus_to_look_for> instead.
