35da4266ffSmrg Bug 56923 - Make command line options consistent (single vs double dash)
36da4266ffSmrg
37da4266ffSmrg Most of xrandr's command line options follow the system of single
38da4266ffSmrg dashes for single character options (e.g. "-v") and double dashes for
39da4266ffSmrg long options ("--version"). The only exceptions are "-display" and
40da4266ffSmrg "-help", most likely for historical reasons. To make the behavior
41da4266ffSmrg consistent across all options, the following patch adds "--display"
42da4266ffSmrg and "--help" as alternatives to the current inconsistency. The man
43da4266ffSmrg page got updated as well, recommending double-dash variants for both
44da4266ffSmrg options. The old behavior is still supported, so the patch should not
45da4266ffSmrg break any existing usage/script.

77da4266ffSmrg Print spaces between XA_ATOM property values
78da4266ffSmrg
79da4266ffSmrg Commit b26fd532b3dab222956ea27eef4e41345978b5b2 redid how xrandr prints
80da4266ffSmrg properties. It neglected to put spaces between the values of XA_ATOM
81da4266ffSmrg properties, so they all run together. For example,
82da4266ffSmrg
83da4266ffSmrg audio: auto
84da4266ffSmrg supported: force-dvioffautoon
85da4266ffSmrg
86da4266ffSmrg Fix this by putting a space after each atom name. In addition, some drivers
87da4266ffSmrg create property values with spaces in them, so put commas between entries to
88da4266ffSmrg disambiguate. For example,
89da4266ffSmrg
90da4266ffSmrg Broadcast RGB: Automatic
91da4266ffSmrg supported: Automatic, Full, Limited 16:235
92da4266ffSmrg
93da4266ffSmrg Do the same for properties with multiple valid ranges.

219966b534aSmrg
220966b534aSmrg 'index' and 'gamma' are C library functions:
221966b534aSmrg
222966b534aSmrg index (3) - locate character in string
223966b534aSmrg gamma (3) - (logarithm of the) gamma function
224966b534aSmrg
225966b534aSmrg The rest of these are either variables or function parameters.
226966b534aSmrg
227966b534aSmrg When possible, move the declaration of a variable into the block where it is
228966b534aSmrg used, including in cases where the same variable is used in multiple blocks but
229966b534aSmrg the later block doesn't depend on the value from the earlier block.
230966b534aSmrg
231966b534aSmrg In a few cases, rename the variable in the outer scope to be more specific (e.g.
232966b534aSmrg output -> config_output) so the more generic variable in the inner scope (e.g.
233966b534aSmrg the 'output' variable used to iterate over all outputs) doesn't have to change.

462966b534aSmrg    xrandr: fix gamma == 1.0 && sigbits != 8
463966b534aSmrg
464966b534aSmrg The gamma-correction lookup table managed through XRR[GS]etCrtcGamma is
465966b534aSmrg 2^n in size, where 'n' is the number of significant bits in the X Color.
466966b534aSmrg Each element in the gamma-correction lookup table is a 16:16:16 X Color
467966b534aSmrg (i.e., in the range [0,65536) ). The significant bits of each component
468966b534aSmrg of each element in the lookup table are programmed into the hardware
469966b534aSmrg lookup table. Meaningful values in the gamma-correction lookup table
470966b534aSmrg are thus in the range [0,2^sigbits), where all values are shifted into
471966b534aSmrg the MSBs (i.e., left shifted by (16 - sigificant bits)).

523966b534aSmrg Add a --scale-from option
524966b534aSmrg
525966b534aSmrg A typical case for wanting to specify a scale on an output is making your
526966b534aSmrg framebuffer be one size and scaling it to fill an output of a different size.
527966b534aSmrg Instead of making the user calculate the scaling factors to be specified by
528966b534aSmrg --scale, add a new option, --scale-from, that lets the user specify the
529966b534aSmrg framebuffer size directly. Compute the appropriate transform to achieve the
530966b534aSmrg desired target size.

817f8a31ee4Smrg xrandr: get gamma and brightness
818f8a31ee4Smrg
819f8a31ee4Smrg Even in verbose query mode, gamma and brigthness were not displayed.
820f8a31ee4Smrg That's because they are not stored in the server the same way they are
821f8a31ee4Smrg specified on the command line: they are stored as 256 * 3 u16 while
822f8a31ee4Smrg the command line is 3 + 1 floats. Still, this is useful info for the
823f8a31ee4Smrg users, and they don't care about how it's stored in the server.
824f8a31ee4Smrg
825f8a31ee4Smrg So we do a regression over the values stored to recover info in the same
826f8a31ee4Smrg way as on the command line: gamma and brightness.

835f8a31ee4Smrg xrandr: fix maximum gamma set
836f8a31ee4Smrg

838f8a31ee4Smrg 255*256, which is only 65280. Make sure that when we set the gamma, the maximum

1016f8a31ee4Smrg xrandr: do not segfault when "--scale" or "--transform" have no output
1017f8a31ee4Smrg
1018f8a31ee4Smrg "xrandr --scale 2x2" segfaults, because the --scale (and --transform)
1019f8a31ee4Smrg options do not check for an existing output.
1020f8a31ee4Smrg
1021f8a31ee4Smrg Make sure there is an output specified (like every other options).

1030f8a31ee4Smrg xrandr: make --query really the default option
1031f8a31ee4Smrg
1032f8a31ee4Smrg The manpage states that "--query" is the default action when nothing
1033f8a31ee4Smrg specific is requested. However, some options such as "-display" or
1034f8a31ee4Smrg "--screen" lead to do nothing by default. This makes sure that unless
1035f8a31ee4Smrg something specific is requested, query is done.
1036f8a31ee4Smrg
1037f8a31ee4Smrg This also restores the behaviour of --q1 to the same one as the old
1038f8a31ee4Smrg xrandr: also display the info on rotation and reflection by default.

142562df5ad0Smrg Fix for 64bit: feed a pointer to the right size variable to scanf().
142662df5ad0Smrg
142762df5ad0Smrg XID is unsigned long, however %x in scanf takes a pointer to an unsigned int.
142862df5ad0Smrg Thus with XID xid, a sscanf(..., "0x%x", &xid) will most likely produce the

1627a0d3b6eaSmrg
1628a0d3b6eaSmrg At the moment it only tests setting one output at a time, it should be
1629a0d3b6eaSmrg improved to add some multi-output setting as well. Also it only tests clone
1630a0d3b6eaSmrg modes at the moment, no multi-monitor setups.

1645a0d3b6eaSmrg Verify crtc against previous config.
1646a0d3b6eaSmrg
1647a0d3b6eaSmrg When selecting a crtc for an output, it doesn't check for already attached
1648a0d3b6eaSmrg outputs in check_crtc_for_output(), and so may select an crtc that is already
1649a0d3b6eaSmrg in use.
1650a0d3b6eaSmrg E.g. when changing from a cloned mode the displays won't be split up to
1651a0d3b6eaSmrg different crtcs, but the same crtc will be used, changing the resolution for
1652a0d3b6eaSmrg the unspecified display as well.

1803a0d3b6eaSmrg Make --auto after --output only affect the output.
1804a0d3b6eaSmrg
1805a0d3b6eaSmrg --auto has two meanings; if presented before any --output flags, it requests
1806a0d3b6eaSmrg that connected-but-disabled outputs be enable while disconnected-but-enabled
1807a0d3b6eaSmrg outputs be disabled. After --output, --auto simply asks that the mode used
1808a0d3b6eaSmrg for the output be automatically selected. Mixing these two operations is not
1809a0d3b6eaSmrg a good default.

2079a0d3b6eaSmrg
2080a0d3b6eaSmrg CRTCs have no intrinsic name, so let users provide either the number in the
2081a0d3b6eaSmrg list or the XID when referring to them explicitly.
2082a0d3b6eaSmrg When no mode is specified, look up the current CRTC for the output and use
2083a0d3b6eaSmrg that mode, instead of using the mode on the target CRTC.

2090a0d3b6eaSmrg Add --preferred and --auto support.
2091a0d3b6eaSmrg
2092a0d3b6eaSmrg --preferred selects the 'best' mode for the monitor automatically, either by
2093a0d3b6eaSmrg looking for a preferred mode, or selecting one which is closest to the
2094a0d3b6eaSmrg current screen DPI.
2095a0d3b6eaSmrg
2096a0d3b6eaSmrg --auto checks connected status and disables the output if disconnected,
2097a0d3b6eaSmrg otherwise it enables it with the preferred mode (as if --preferred).

2103a0d3b6eaSmrg mark disabled crtc as changing, set rotation to 90 for disabled crtc.
2104a0d3b6eaSmrg
2105a0d3b6eaSmrg --off code was not correctly finding and marking the to-be-disabled crtc,
2106a0d3b6eaSmrg and the disabling code was sending an uninitialized rotation value to the
2107a0d3b6eaSmrg server when no outputs were connected.
