37f3dfa9d3Smrg People who want to dick around might think it is safe to run "xrandr -x"

63f3dfa9d3Smrg xrandr: use full range for gamma table generation
64f3dfa9d3Smrg
65f3dfa9d3Smrg Calculate gamma table using full [0,65536) range and do not make any
66f3dfa9d3Smrg assumptions about relation of gamma table size and significant bits.
67f3dfa9d3Smrg
68f3dfa9d3Smrg Gamma table size has nothing to do with number of significant bits in hardware.
69f3dfa9d3Smrg In particular we are dealing now with gamma table that has 17 entries and 8
70f3dfa9d3Smrg bit precision, there are other GPUs with 10 bit precision and less than 256
71f3dfa9d3Smrg entries using partial linear approximation. Deriving assumed gamma table
72f3dfa9d3Smrg significant bits from size of gamma table leads to incorrect calculations and
73f3dfa9d3Smrg loss of precision. Also XRandR specification never mentions that gamma tables
74f3dfa9d3Smrg need to be power of 2.

143fa120d7cSmrg Using just one decimal place for dotclock and refresh rates loses quite
144fa120d7cSmrg a bit of information. When dealing with 60Hz vs. 59.94Hz refresh rate

224da4266ffSmrg Bug 56923 - Make command line options consistent (single vs double dash)
225da4266ffSmrg
226da4266ffSmrg Most of xrandr's command line options follow the system of single
227da4266ffSmrg dashes for single character options (e.g. "-v") and double dashes for
228da4266ffSmrg long options ("--version"). The only exceptions are "-display" and
229da4266ffSmrg "-help", most likely for historical reasons. To make the behavior
230da4266ffSmrg consistent across all options, the following patch adds "--display"
231da4266ffSmrg and "--help" as alternatives to the current inconsistency. The man
232da4266ffSmrg page got updated as well, recommending double-dash variants for both
233da4266ffSmrg options. The old behavior is still supported, so the patch should not
234da4266ffSmrg break any existing usage/script.

266da4266ffSmrg Print spaces between XA_ATOM property values
267da4266ffSmrg
268da4266ffSmrg Commit b26fd532b3dab222956ea27eef4e41345978b5b2 redid how xrandr prints
269da4266ffSmrg properties. It neglected to put spaces between the values of XA_ATOM
270da4266ffSmrg properties, so they all run together. For example,

273da4266ffSmrg supported: force-dvioffautoon
274da4266ffSmrg

391966b534aSmrg
392966b534aSmrg There are piles of places in the code where a variable shadows either another

407966b534aSmrg xrandr.c:3243:20: warning: declaration of ‘mode’ shadows a previous local [-Wshadow]
408966b534aSmrg
409966b534aSmrg 'index' and 'gamma' are C library functions:
410966b534aSmrg
411966b534aSmrg index (3) - locate character in string
412966b534aSmrg gamma (3) - (logarithm of the) gamma function
413966b534aSmrg
414966b534aSmrg The rest of these are either variables or function parameters.
415966b534aSmrg
416966b534aSmrg When possible, move the declaration of a variable into the block where it is
417966b534aSmrg used, including in cases where the same variable is used in multiple blocks but
418966b534aSmrg the later block doesn't depend on the value from the earlier block.
419966b534aSmrg
420966b534aSmrg In a few cases, rename the variable in the outer scope to be more specific (e.g.
421966b534aSmrg output -> config_output) so the more generic variable in the inner scope (e.g.
422966b534aSmrg the 'output' variable used to iterate over all outputs) doesn't have to change.

620966b534aSmrg Fix as many of these as possible. This introduces one problem:
621966b534aSmrg XRRSetCrtcTransform takes a non-const char* filter parameter even though it

636966b534aSmrg

651966b534aSmrg    xrandr: fix gamma == 1.0 && sigbits != 8
652966b534aSmrg
653966b534aSmrg The gamma-correction lookup table managed through XRR[GS]etCrtcGamma is
654966b534aSmrg 2^n in size, where 'n' is the number of significant bits in the X Color.
655966b534aSmrg Each element in the gamma-correction lookup table is a 16:16:16 X Color
656966b534aSmrg (i.e., in the range [0,65536) ). The significant bits of each component
657966b534aSmrg of each element in the lookup table are programmed into the hardware
658966b534aSmrg lookup table. Meaningful values in the gamma-correction lookup table
659966b534aSmrg are thus in the range [0,2^sigbits), where all values are shifted into
660966b534aSmrg the MSBs (i.e., left shifted by (16 - sigificant bits)).

713966b534aSmrg

1006f8a31ee4Smrg xrandr: get gamma and brightness
1007f8a31ee4Smrg
1008f8a31ee4Smrg Even in verbose query mode, gamma and brigthness were not displayed.
1009f8a31ee4Smrg That's because they are not stored in the server the same way they are
1010f8a31ee4Smrg specified on the command line: they are stored as 256 * 3 u16 while
1011f8a31ee4Smrg the command line is 3 + 1 floats. Still, this is useful info for the
1012f8a31ee4Smrg users, and they don't care about how it's stored in the server.
1013f8a31ee4Smrg
1014f8a31ee4Smrg So we do a regression over the values stored to recover info in the same
1015f8a31ee4Smrg way as on the command line: gamma and brightness.

1024f8a31ee4Smrg xrandr: fix maximum gamma set
1025f8a31ee4Smrg
1026f8a31ee4Smrg Gamma is an array of 3 16-bit values. Currently, the maximum value assigned is
1027f8a31ee4Smrg 255*256, which is only 65280. Make sure that when we set the gamma, the maximum
1028f8a31ee4Smrg value is 65535. It's slightly brighter but also helps to avoid kludges to
1029f8a31ee4Smrg detect clamped values when reading back the gamma.

159962df5ad0Smrg update the manpage
160062df5ad0Smrg
160162df5ad0Smrg Describe all the options supported, including: --dryrun, -display,
160262df5ad0Smrg --q1, --q12, and --rate for 1.1
160362df5ad0Smrg Describe all short and long version of the option.
160462df5ad0Smrg Use the usual man style for the option arugments.
160562df5ad0Smrg Move the four --*mode options out of the output section as they are
160662df5ad0Smrg independant of an output.
160762df5ad0Smrg Mention cvt for computing modelines.
160862df5ad0Smrg Gives some examples.

161462df5ad0Smrg Fix for 64bit: feed a pointer to the right size variable to scanf().
161562df5ad0Smrg
161662df5ad0Smrg XID is unsigned long, however %x in scanf takes a pointer to an unsigned int.
161762df5ad0Smrg Thus with XID xid, a sscanf(..., "0x%x", &xid) will most likely produce the
161862df5ad0Smrg wrong results.

169662df5ad0Smrg Manage transform filters. Use bilinear for non-identity scale.
169762df5ad0Smrg
169862df5ad0Smrg This involved creating a compound transform datatype to hold all of the
169962df5ad0Smrg relevant transform and filter information. Adding arbitrary transforms
170062df5ad0Smrg should be fairly easy at this point.

1815a0d3b6eaSmrg Add xrandr test suite.
1816a0d3b6eaSmrg
1817a0d3b6eaSmrg At the moment it only tests setting one output at a time, it should be
1818a0d3b6eaSmrg improved to add some multi-output setting as well. Also it only tests clone
1819a0d3b6eaSmrg modes at the moment, no multi-monitor setups.

1834a0d3b6eaSmrg Verify crtc against previous config.
1835a0d3b6eaSmrg
1836a0d3b6eaSmrg When selecting a crtc for an output, it doesn't check for already attached
1837a0d3b6eaSmrg outputs in check_crtc_for_output(), and so may select an crtc that is already
1838a0d3b6eaSmrg in use.
1839a0d3b6eaSmrg E.g. when changing from a cloned mode the displays won't be split up to
1840a0d3b6eaSmrg different crtcs, but the same crtc will be used, changing the resolution for
1841a0d3b6eaSmrg the unspecified display as well.

1992a0d3b6eaSmrg Make --auto after --output only affect the output.
1993a0d3b6eaSmrg
1994a0d3b6eaSmrg --auto has two meanings; if presented before any --output flags, it requests
1995a0d3b6eaSmrg that connected-but-disabled outputs be enable while disconnected-but-enabled
1996a0d3b6eaSmrg outputs be disabled. After --output, --auto simply asks that the mode used
1997a0d3b6eaSmrg for the output be automatically selected. Mixing these two operations is not
