1.21  28-May-2020  jmcneill Remove "write a BSD-licensed web browser" from the list of suggested smaller projects.
1.20  24-Jan-2020  ad Myself and I think dsl@ looked into sysenter/sysexit in 2007 and while it
was faster, it wasn't worth the trouble.
 1.19  19-Feb-2015  mrg branches: 1.19.14;
update for reality in many places.
1.18  10-Jun-2014  joerg netiso is dead.
 1.17  09-Aug-2011  jruoho branches: 1.17.8; 1.17.20;
Also: netpgp(1).
1.16  09-Aug-2011  jruoho Remove few entries that clearly have been done (aio(3), ssp(3), tests(7)).
1.15  12-Nov-2008  ad Remove LKMs and switch to the module framework, pass 1.

Proposed on tech-kern@.
1.14  27-Sep-2005  hubertf * make clear what "window" is
* we now have a SMB filesystem
* add link to SoC project for BSD-licensed privacy guard like gnupg or pgp
(XXX what's the status of that???)
* Mention kerberizing more services, with associated PR
1.13  23-Sep-2005  jmmv Apply the NFS exports list rototill patch:

- Remove all NFS related stuff from file system specific code.
- Drop the vfs_checkexp hook and generalize it in the new nfs_check_export
function, thus removing redundancy from all file systems.
- Move all NFS export-related stuff from kern/vfs_subr.c to the new
file sys/nfs/nfs_export.c. The former was becoming large and its code
is always compiled, regardless of the build options. Using the latter,
the code is only compiled in when NFSSERVER is enabled. While doing this,
also make some functions in nfs_subs.c conditional to NFSSERVER.
- Add a new command in nfssvc(2), called NFSSVC_SETEXPORTSLIST, that takes a
path and a set of export entries. At the moment it can only clear the
exports list or append entries, one by one, but it is done in a way that
allows setting the whole set of entries atomically in the future (see the
comment in mountd_set_exports_list or in doc/TODO).
- Change mountd(8) to use the nfssvc(2) system call instead of mount(2) so
that it becomes file system agnostic. In fact, all this whole thing was
done to remove a 'XXX' block from this utility!
- Change the mount*, newfs and fsck* userland utilities to not deal with NFS
exports initialization; done internally by the kernel when initializing
the NFS support for each file system.
- Implement an interface for VFS (called VFS hooks) so that several kernel
subsystems can run arbitrary code upon receipt of specific VFS events.
At the moment, this only provides support for unmount and is used to
destroy NFS exports lists from the file systems being unmounted, though it
has room for extension.

Thanks go to yamt@, chs@, thorpej@, wrstuden@ and others for their comments
and advice in the development of this patch.
1.12  29-Nov-2004  agc Add some suggested projects (from Christos Zoulas).
1.11  27-May-2004  agc Take Unix98 ptys off the To Do list (thanks, Christos!)
1.10  24-Sep-2003  agc Mycroft has addressed the item

+ someone investigate time taken to boot

by not only investigating, but also eliminating the polling for
non-existent devices (no more 20 second waits at boot time), and also
getting rid of some unnecessary quirk tables.

Thanks, Charles!
 1.9  05-Sep-2003  simonb Fix a tyop.
1.8  02-Sep-2003  junyoung Add a couple of entries I have interests in.
While here, do whitespace cleanup.
1.7  30-Aug-2003  jmmv Add a new item (so I can remember it):
+ merge moused(8) with wsmoused(8) as a new work mode (i.e. serial)
1.6  18-Aug-2003  agc An autoconf'ed version of NetBSD sed has been added to bootstrap-pkgsrc -
remove the entry from the TODO list.
1.5  16-Aug-2003  agc add an item to the small projects list - POSIX async IO
1.4  15-Aug-2003  agc Add a list of smaller, suggested projects to the TODO list. The
suggested list is by no means definitive - please add to it as
desired. If you are working on one of these projects, please put your
name beside the project so that work is not duplicated.
1.3  10-Aug-2003  jdolecek remove hp300 SCSI item - NetBSD/hp300 uses generic SCSI nowadays
remove gated item - the licence is too restrictive to ever include
it in tree, and it's in pkgsrc and the licence
1.2  05-Dec-2002  jonb swept through the tree with find and grep looking for EDITOR.
Cleaned up all broken occurances found.

Did not check crypto/dist. (filenames imply these are not for exec $EDITOR)
Did not fully check sh and ksh. (lost in twisty mazes of function calls
and finally just assumed it was good)
and did not check gnu/dist/cvs (appears ok by testing with this commit)
 1.1  21-Sep-2002  lukem move doc/* -> basesrc/doc/*, except for doc/MIRRORS, which is not used
anymore (we refer to http://www.netbsd.org/mirrors/ now)
 1.17.20.1  10-Aug-2014  tls Rebase.
1.17.8.1  19-Aug-2014  tls Rebase to HEAD as of a few days ago.
1.19.14.1  08-Apr-2020  martin Merge changes from current as of 20200406
